September 27, 2010 -- Melissa adds a new but familiar entry to her list of cities played around the Sunshine State when she performs at the Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival at the end of this week. Born in Niceville (Eglin Air Force Base), the now 21-year old lived in the Panhandle until the age of five before moving to Japan for five years. When Melissa was ten her family moved back to Navarre, where she lived for four more years.
Having spent nine of her first 14 years in the area and with family still living there, the dates at the end of this week can certainly be considered homecoming shows.
“I visit my family up there fairly regularly,” she explained. “But since my CD came out, all of my live shows have been in cities around Florida – except for the Panhandle. I’m excited to ‘go home’ and play not only at what will definitely be a great event, but in front of family and friends.”
Melissa has been getting notice in cities she has played in here in Florida as well as nationally.
In the last week of August/first week of September alone she was interviewed and then performed on a national TV show. The next day the September issue of a regional monthly magazine came out, with a full-page feature on the piano and guitar player. And, two music websites had recently published good reviews of her CD, “Waiting.”
Shortly after the release of the eleven-track disc, *TBT (Tampa Bay Times) featured Melissa as their Artist of the Day. And, the title track was among the top 50 in MusicTampaBay.com’s Top 100 Songs of 2009. The CD is available on iTunes, Amazon.com, CDbaby.com, and several other online retailers and, of course, at her live shows.
Already Melissa’s musician page on Facebook has followers from 14 different countries.
Melissa has played in cities such as Daytona Beach, Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Myers. At the Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival she will play Friday, October 1st from 4-5 pm at the Sandshaker, and then from 7-8 pm at the Grand Marlin; Saturday, October 2nd from 3-4 pm at Land Shark Landing, and then from 6-7 pm at the Paradise Inn.
