September 27, 2011 -- Melissa was back on-stage this past weekend, doing two shows in St. Petersburg, Florida, that enabled her to get ready for her return to the Panhandle of the Sunshine State this week, which is also a homecoming.
Melissa had taken a much deserved break from live shows after a busy first half of 2011 that was a continuation of a flurry of activity late last year and saw her in Nashville in January, Las Vegas in February, and various cities in Florida in March, April, and May.
Her performances this past Friday and Saturday were great timing as a lead-up to this week’s 3rd Pensacola Beach Songwriters Festival that she will leave for tomorrow. Throughout the event Melissa is scheduled to perform four times – once each day beginning this Thursday (September 29).
Last year she had made her PBSF debut and is seen in a video on her official YouTube channel coming home from that and saying that it was, “a life-changing experience.”
This time around Melissa knows what to expect and says that she is looking forward to seeing many what are now familiar faces, in terms of people she met there last year as well as in the months that followed.
Meeting new people from the music world is always a certainty too at an event like this. Perhaps even that was part of the preparations this past weekend, when, after her second St. Pete show, Melissa was invited to dinner with Mikel Paris from O.A.R. and singer/songwriter Michael Tolcher, both of whom were in town to do a show together.
And, of course, Melissa looks forward to this week’s trip for the chance to see her family that lives in the Panhandle. By the time this weekend comes around, everyone will know, she’s back.
